Day 154 – Hello Kitty Headband

Hello Yearlings!

I’ve been staring at my humongous collection of yarn lately just longing to buy more, but knowing I don’t have the need (or space) for it, when one of my friends turned me on to the idea of “stash busting”. Apparently this is when you just make a bunch of big or involved crochet projects with the goal of depleting whatever yarn you might just have lying around that isn’t being used. I have A LOT of yarn like that, so I figured I would give it a go. Be prepared for some serious yarn craft kids.

I figured I would start by doing something that I thought would be really cute and denote my intense love of all things Hello Kitty. I’ve actually been meaning to do some HK/anime themed crafts, I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’m a gigantic nerd and I’m not even remotely ashamed of it.

*This is another original so if you come across any issues with the pattern please be sure to let me know!

Row 3: ch 2, turn, 2 hdc, hdcdec, 2 hdc, hdcdec, 2hdc (8)

Row 4: ch 2, turn 1 hdc, hdcdec, 2 hdc, hdcdec, 1 hdc (6)

Row 5: ch 2, turn, 1 hdc, 2 hdcdec, 1 hdc (4)

Row 6: ch 2, turn, 2 hdcdec (2)

Row 7: ch 2 turn, hdcdec (1) break off leaving tail (if you’re making 4) to sew together

You can find the bow pattern and instructions here. For the bow I follow the directions but actually stopped after row 10, so my row 11 is her row 17. Does that make sense? Otherwise the bow would have been way too big. I also use an I (5.50 mm) crochet hook.

Construction:

Sew your ears together using the long tails that you’ve left at the top. Then, using the tails that you left at the bottom of the ears, sew your ears to the top of your headband wherever you would like them. Add a tiny bit of fiber fill into your bow and the center of your bow before you sew them closed. Sew the bow at an angle to the base of the left ear. Weave in all of your ends.

Ingredients:

Worsted weight yarn, red and white

Fiber Fill

I (5.50 mm) crochet hook

K crochet hook

It reads a lot trickier than it is. It was actually incredibly simple to do and I just sort of thought of the whole thing, with the exception of the bow, off of the top of my head. It’s also incredibly cute, in my opinion. Not that I’m biased or anything. I also know a couple of young girls that would love to have something like this so I’m going to have to see if it scales down easily. That way all the twelve year old’s, that Hello Kitty is actually intended for, can enjoy it! Nothing wrong with channeling your inner twelve year old!

Lots of Love,

Maya
