Day 303 – Creepy Enoch Totem

Hello Yearlings!

Our whole household is obsessed with Over the Garden Wall, and so we decided that that needed to be the theme of our Halloween Party this year. Literally all we’ve been doing is watching it when we’re together, that is when we’re not listening to the soundtrack or thinking of cool crafts to make for our party. It’s become a bit of an addiction for us. I’m pretty sure that Halloween will just consist of us sitting around and watching it with our friends all night long.

One of the more intriguing characters, in my opinion, is Enoch. He’s essentially a super mysterious leader of a town of pumpkin people. He’s got this incredibly deep voice and his presence is almost the direct antithesis to the great villain of the piece. He’s sort of a force of neutral good without much interest in anything that doesn’t directly affect him. He sort of reminds me of Death in the Discworld series; he’s not especially good or evil, he’s simply a fact.

Paint your small sign a very vibrant color of orange, then allow to dry. I actually had to mix a darker orange with a bit of gold to get the right color.

Then just glue on the gigantic unblinking eyes and the ever grinning mouth as well as the fringe that makes up his body along the bottom. You can make him look more like a Jack O Lantern if you like, that would be just as cute though not as apt.

Ingredients:

1 small ovoid shaped sign

Orange paint

Paint brush

Construction paper in black yellow and green

I meant for this to be cutesy and look like something a third grader would make, hence the use of the construction paper, but it ended up coming out way creepier than I had intended. It looks a bit like a totem. I’m sure that it will protect our pumpkins from getting smashed by stupid teenagers. I don’t imagine they will want to go near it. It looks like some sort of weird forest creature out of a Miyazaki film. The photos don’t really do justice to just how unsettling it turned out.

Lots of Love,

Maya
