Day 139 – Elephant Pacifier Clip

Hello Yearlings!

Who has two thumbs and read Divergent in basically a day? This girl! It felt really good to read again, as I’ve gotten so busy that I’ve actually gotten out of the habit of doing it. I miss it, so when April lent my her copy I decided to just go ahead and devour it. I’ve actually been wary of reading it because from what I had heard about it it didn’t really seem like something that I would enjoy. I did not like Uglies and this sounded like it was a whole lot of the same. I’m starting to feel like I’m just not insecure enough to relate to a lot of the female heroines in young adult novels, probably because I’m not some willowy pre-teen with hearts in her eyes for every male that tosses attention her way. Is that what all heroines in YA books are now?

After I finished the book, however, I had my regular post-book depression and decided that a bit of crochet was exactly what I needed to cheer myself up. I also wanted to make something cute for my 5 month old nephew and seeing as my mother would be traveling through town I thought it would be a great time to make it and just pass it off to her to give to my brother. This is another original pattern of mine and I just did my best to keep track of what I was doing as I went along so be sure to let me know if you try this out and find some kinks in it.

Row 46: Ch 8 to create loop at end of tusk, sl st into 2nd st, break off and weave in ends

Construction:

Position ears evenly on either side of the head and sew to the head with the long tails. Sew on trunk in the middle of the face, I sewed mine on right under the magic circle in the head, but you can go higher or lower if you prefer. Sew button onto the front of the trunk right above the loop that you’ve made being sure to leave enough room for the pacifier to fit. Sew clip onto the back of the head between the ears, or wherever it would be most convenient for you to clip it on. Sew the eyes as you like. Weave in all of your ends and fuss accordingly.

I decided against adding features because I thought that it would make the face look really cramped. I will probably add eyes before I send it off to the nephew though.

Ingredients:

Grey worsted weight yarn, this is the one I used

Size G crochet hook

Button, I used red but the color doesn’t really matter so long as it stands out and you can see it

Clip, you can glue on an alligator clip or sew on a suspender clip

This project is seriously so freaking easy. It’s also incredibly basic and can be done in under two hours, so if you’ve got stretches of spare time, say during travel, then you can for sure get this done in no time flat. I also think that this is absolutely flipping adorable and intend to make roughly a million more in different animals so that he can look super stylish whenever he’s rolling around town with his pacifier.

Lots of Love,

Maya
