Day 19 – Pinafore Dress Pt 1

Hello Yearlings!

This penifore is incredibly simple to make. All it takes is a sewing machine and some basic sewing knowledge. Literally all you have to do is make a circle skirt and then attach what is effectively a bib with straps to the top. For my post today I’m just posting the bottom half of the penifore. It’s a circle skirt made of two yards of fabric with a little bit of elastic.

Step 1: Pick a ridiculously garish fabric. The more ridiculous, the better.

Step 1.5: Divide the fabric into two parts, a 1yd cut and a 2yd cut

Step 2: Pin down the hem

Step 3: Pin down the band, where the elastic will run through.

Step 4: Sew the band

Step 5: Sew the hem.

Step 6: Fold over the raw edge and sew the two sides of the fabric together, right side down (don’t forget to sew the elastic)

Ta da! Circle Skirt!

Ingredients:

3 yards Fabric, split into two separate cuts (1yd, 2yd)

Thread

Sewing Machine

1 in elastic

Pins

*Note: I cut the fabric in half lengthwise, so that I could fold over an edge and turn it into a band to thread the elastic through. You end up with a lot more extra fabric lying around.

Once you’re done with these steps you will have a fully functioning circle skirt. You can stop here and enjoy the perfect summer skirt. Or you can continue on and sew on the top half of the petifore, which I will post tomorrow.

Lots of Love,

Maya
